
Renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s critically acclaimed and National Award-winning film Shahid is all set for a special re-release in theaters. The makers have planned a special screening for February 26, 2025. And are tentatively scheduling a wider re-release in May to mark its 10th anniversary. Originally released in 2013. The biographical drama compellingly portrays the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi. Who tragically lost his life in 2010.

Starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, Shahid received widespread praise for its powerful storytelling and outstanding performances. The film earned Hansal Mehta the National Film Award for Best Director. While Rao won the National Film Award for Best Actor. The film debuted on October 18, 2013, to critical acclaim and remains one of Bollywood’s most thought-provoking biopics.
The upcoming re-release, spearheaded by producer Sunil Bohra and Hansal Mehta, aims to introduce Shahid to a new generation of viewers. According to reports, the special screening is currently being organized by the Versova Homage Society. Meanwhile, plans for a broader re-release in May are also gaining momentum, as the filmmakers aim to bring the film back to the big screen for its 10th anniversary. Expressing his gratitude, Sunil Bohra acknowledged the importance of the film, stating, “A film like Shahid happens very rarely in a producer’s or filmmaker’s life. I will always be thankful to Hansal Mehta for giving me the opportunity to produce this film. We are definitely planning to re-release it in cinemas soon.”
Adding to the excitement, the special screening will feature an interactive session with the cast, moderated by acclaimed filmmaker and writer Tigmanshu Dhulia.
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao is gearing up for his next project, Maalik, an action-packed gangster drama directed by Pulkit. The film is set to hit theaters on June 20, 2025.
